A Victorian mahogany and fabric upholstered bedroom chair, manner of Howard & Sons.

Make this Chairloom yours

Chairlooms are beautiful antique and vintage chairs that we have found and chosen for their shape, character and potential.

Rather than deciding how to upholster this one ourselves, we’re giving you the opportunity to choose what it becomes.

Select your preferred sheepskin colour and, once you have ordered your Chairloom, we’ll contact you to agree the final design and finishing details before work begins.

How it works

Your Chairloom will be carefully restored and reupholstered in our North Wales workshop.

Depending on the chair and the design we agree, this may include cleaning and sympathetically restoring the frame, repairing and re-springing or webbing where required, rebuilding the upholstery and finally covering it in your chosen sheepskin and coordinating fabric.

Once complete, your one-off Chairloom will be carefully wrapped and delivered to your home.

About the imagined image

We’ve included a computer generated imagined image to help you visualise the potential of this Chairloom once restored and upholstered.

It shows one possible interpretation and is intended as a guide only. The finished chair may not look exactly the same and there may be differences in shape, detailing, fabric placement, wood finish and the natural texture, tone and character of the sheepskin.

Every Chairloom is individually restored and upholstered, and every sheepskin is naturally unique.

We will agree the final design with you before work begins.

Choose your sheepskin

Use the swatches to choose the sheepskin colour you’d like us to work with.

Don’t worry if you’re not completely certain about the finer details yet. Once you’ve secured your Chairloom, we’ll contact you to discuss the design and help you decide what will work beautifully with your chair.

Price

The price shown is for the fully restored and reupholstered Chairloom in the standard treatment described for this chair.

If you would like a different combination of sheepskin, upholstery fabric or finishing details, we’ll discuss this with you and agree any difference in price before work begins.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Rare breed sheepskin is wonderfully expressive. Each piece has its own natural character, with variations in wool length, texture, curl and colour that make every creation entirely unique.

Tones range from soft creams and warm ivories through to rich browns and deep chocolate shades, often with subtle variation across a single fleece. Some pieces are long and flowing, others more textured and sculptural — all naturally occurring and impossible to replicate.

This natural diversity is exactly what gives rare breed pieces their depth, movement and individuality.

For made-to-order pieces, you’re invited to select your favourites from the collection. From there, we carefully curate a complementary set, considering tone, texture and flow so everything works beautifully together. We’ll always share the selection with you for approval before any making begins.

As sheepskin is a natural product the wool on each of our sheepskin products is unique and can differ in texture and length.  That's why we specify that our measurements are approximate.

Please keep the dyed colours out of strong sunlight as it may bleach and dry out the skin.  The natural colours of Ivory, Rare Breed and Chocolate will not be affected by strong sunlight.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
