Shake it till you make it

If there’s one thing your sheepskin loves, it’s a good shake! All our sheepskin stools come with removable covers, so you can give them a little wiggle to keep things looking fresh. By shaking your sheepskin regularly, you help maintain the wool fibres, restore the bounce, and give it that fluffy, cloud-like texture we all know and love. So go ahead, give it a shake – it’s good for the fleece, and it’s fun too!

Brush it, don’t rush it

Brushing your sheepskin is a bit like giving it a spa day. We recommend using a wire brush to gently smooth out the pile and keep it feeling super soft. A little brush now and then will do wonders for your sheepskin’s appearance – just remember, moderation is key! Over-brushing can lead to a slightly woolly look (unless you’re going for that cosy sheep-herding chic, of course). And don’t worry, we’ve got you covered – a slicker brush comes with every footstool order, so you’re all set to pamper your stool from day one! There’s no need to brush Yeti or Boucle sheepskin though, so these are a great choice to reduce the housework!

Caring for Yeti and Boucle Sheepskin

Our Yeti and Boucle sheepskins are a little different to standard sheepskin and they like to be treated that way too! Boucle Sheepskin, sometimes called shearling, is short, dense and full of tiny, beautiful curls that resemble boucle fabric – hence the name! Whilst Yeti is longer in pile and has a more natural, fleece-on-a-sheep-style curl. It’s wonderfully wild and full of character!

To keep both looking baa-eautiful:

• No brushing, please! Brushing will flatten and loosen the curl, so it’s best avoided.

• Instead, give Boucle and Yeti a gentle shake now and then to fluff them up and keep them looking fresh.

• A vacuum nozzle attachment on a low setting can also help remove dust or crumbs whilst retaining the natural curl definition.

Sun, sun, go away

Sheepskin loves warmth, but too much sunshine isn’t its best friend. Excessive sunlight can cause the fibres to fade and dry out, especially with our fabulous fashion colours. If you’re placing your sheepskin in a sun-drenched spot, we suggest opting for one of our natural shades, like Ivory, Chocolate, or Rare Breed. But remember, no matter the colour, always keep an eye out for colour transfer – no one likes a fashion faux pas, especially when it’s a dark rug rubbing against a pale carpet.

Keep it dry and snuggly

While we all enjoy a rainy day here and there, sheepskin isn’t the best at handling a downpour! Damp conditions can cause mould and make those fibres curl up. If your sheepskin does get wet, simply let it dry slowly and away from high temperatures. Sheepskin will thank you for a gentle, slow dry, and you’ll have it looking gorgeous again in no time.

Dirt? What dirt?

One of the best things about sheepskin? It’s naturally dirt-resistant! That’s right – this magical material doesn’t attract dust and dirt like other fabrics. But if your sheepskin does happen to collect a little dust, simply give it a gentle shake or use a vacuum cleaner with a soft attachment. Your sheepskin will stay clean and fresh, with minimal effort required. How baa-mazing is that?

Oops, spilled something? No worries!

Whoops! Spills happen, but don’t worry – your sheepskin is here for you. If something spills, simply spot clean with a damp cloth and a small amount of wool detergent. For dirtier marks, you can let it dry, then gently brush it out. Easy peasy! And don’t stress – a little spill won’t ruin the magic that is your sheepskin stool. Just be sure to act quickly, and everything will be baaeautiful again in no time!

Washing? Nope, that’s not for sheepskin!

We totally get it – you want to keep your sheepskin looking spotless. But, as tempting as it may be, we don’t recommend washing it. If spot cleaning and brushing aren’t quite doing the trick, the best option is to send it for a professional dry clean. Sheepskin is delicate and can shrink if washed at home, so leave it to the experts – your stool will thank you for it!

Freezing a sheepskin rug for 24-48 hours can help remove odors by killing the bacteria that cause them.  Before freezing, shake the rug outdoors to remove loose debris, and after freezing, hang it in a shady, well-ventilated area to air out completely. For residual smells, sprinkle baking soda on the rug, let it absorb odors for a few hours, then shake or vacuum it off.
