Eight easy ways to update the look of your home

Sustainability is such an important issue now. Whatever we own – whether it’s ornaments, rugs or pieces of furniture – the days of throwing them away and buying something else, just because we feel like it, are well and truly gone. Nowadays, to make our lifestyles as environmentally sustainable as possible, we need to be thinking about reusing and repurposing our possessions – or passing them on to someone else to reuse and repurpose. The landfill sites are already full to bursting, so let’s see if we can come up with a few cost effective, simple ways to make our homes look revitalized and interesting. Here are 8 easy ways to update the look of your home.

1. Add a sheepskin seat pad

Do you have an old stool or chair in need of a little TLC? Perhaps you’d prefer it to be a bit more comfortable, eye-catching and cosy? Well, have a look at our beautiful sheepskin seat pads, which come in a host of colours including springtime sage, lilac and baby pink. This is what Amy @littlehouseinlondon has done to spruce up her kitchen stools. Don’t they look amazing?

2. Beautify a bench or stool

Fed up of those pine kitchen benches, which you’ve had for donkey’s years? Are they looking chipped, scratched and dowdy? Why not try these gorgeous bespoke bench covers, which come in small, medium or large? If you’re giving your kitchen a new coat of paint too, then you’re bound to find the perfect sheepskin cover to complement your new colour scheme as we have colours from dusky pink to teal to choose from, and even some divine natural sheepskin hues.

3. Add a cushion or two

Cushions are a great way to add brightness and cheerfulness to a room. Our sheepskin cushions come in round, square or heart-shaped. Take your pick! They can be patterned with stars or lightning bolts, if you wish. We even have swirl cushions and zebra cushions for a striking black-and-white effect. Choose one or two enlivening colours to complement your décor, or simply go colour crazy!

4. Layer with a sheepskin rug

At Baa Stool, repurposing and reusing is what we do best. For example, when we make our luxurious sheepskin rugs – which come in an array of colours, shapes, patterns and sizes – we never waste a thing. Any leftover pieces of sheepskin will be used as stuffing for cushions and pouffes. Pieces of sheepskin that are too small to create large rugs and throws will be made into accessories like bags and wall art.

5. A seat for your bestie.

Another wonderful way of upgrading your home is to consider spray-painting or hand-painting your kitchen cupboards, bathroom or utility. This can make an old kitchen feel brand new.  Rachel of @raspberry_flavoured_windows has recently painted her kitchen cupboards in a sublime shade of dark red. It look fantastic! Have you ever thought about painting some of your old wooden cupboards and shelves?

6. Change up your Baa Stool

Of course, if you’re the proud owner of a Baa Stool, their sheepskin covers can be removed and replaced. Why not select a new colour for a new season, to freshen up and enliven your home? With over 30 colours to choose from, you’re bound to find the ideal shade to match your interior décor, and boredom will become a thing of the past!

7: Reshuffle your rooms

A great way of updating your home, without spending a penny, is to have a massive turnaround! I love doing this from time to time. Move all the furniture around and discover that your home looks completely new. Whether it’s moving the sofa or the bed to the other side of the room, it will give you a whole new perspective and the space will look entirely different. How about moving a bench to the foot of your bed?

8. Move art work around

Another simple but effective way of altering your home is to move the artwork around. Try hanging different pictures in different rooms. Or move the ornaments, lamps and books around. Again, this will help you to see the space in a fresh way. It may even inspire you to give the room a new lick of paint! Although that’s not one of our 8 easy ways to update the look of your home, it’s will take a little more effort!
