I know some of you have been waiting a long time for the BAA Bags to return and good things come to those who wait!

A local collaboration…

We’re always thinking of new products to bring you, different styles of stools and lovely home and fashion accessories. Sheepskin is so versatile and we have a long list of product ideas that we’re constantly developing and finessing to bring you the very best…it’s what you expect from us!

I met Fran Smyth many years ago when I was exploring my new hometown of Ruthin in North Wales. She has a gorgeous little olde worlde leather shop which smells divine and is filled with belts, keyrings, dog collars and…bags.

I very quickly became a regular customer and the owner of several of her bags which are such amazing quality I knew we had to collaborate.

Fran’s story…

Fran started her journey into leatherwork at the age of 14 when on a Saturday or during holidays she used to jump on her trusty Raleigh Flyer and pedal furiously from into through the Welsh hills to learn some of the basics of leatherwork from the Norringtons – excellent teachers they were too!

In 1985 the excellent teachers emigrated to warmer climes and Fran inherited their wonderful collection of traditional tools. Good fortune struck and a workshop became available in Clwyd St, Ruthin.

Hideaway was born in 1986 and with much encouragement, many craft and design shows were attended far and wide and much was learnt.

A happy customer…

Different types of leather are used for different jobs. Natural veg-tanned leather is preferred for all sorts of items from bangles and key fobs to hand moulded flowers and leaves. A beautiful oil tanned leather is imported for it’s suppleness and is used to make handbags, belts, dog collars and leads of all sizes.

Over the years a huge variety of goods have been made by hand-as the worn out stanley knife and equally worn out leatherworker will attest to! Many bespoke items of all sorts and each one made adds to the knowledge of the leatherworker.

Now you can see why Fran was the obvious choice for a collaborator when we set out to create a handbag!
