As comfy as a cardigan — but with a wild side.

Meet The Wooligan — the armchair that refuses to behave. Wrapped in gloriously untamed British rare breed sheepskin in natural shades of grey, brown and ivory, this is comfort with character and texture with attitude.

Rare breed sheepskin is wonderfully expressive, full of movement and individuality. To create each Wooligan, we carefully select and match 6-7 similar rare breed sheepskin rugs, considering tone, wool length, markings and flow. It’s a skilled, time-intensive process carried out entirely by hand in our North Wales workshop — and it means no two Wooligans are ever the same.

Sink into the deep, generous seat and you’ll see why customers compare it to wearing their favourite cardigan: cocooning, breathable and effortlessly cosy. Naturally temperature-regulating, the sheepskin keeps you comfortable year-round.

To complete the experience, The Wooligan can be paired with a matching sidekick, upholstered in the same carefully chosen sheepskin for a beautifully cohesive look. Choose a Regular Pouffe for relaxed, feet-down comfort; a Large Pouffe for full stretch-out lounging at seat height; or The Scallywag — a sturdy footstool on oak legs that echoes the chair’s stance while adding a little lift and structure.

Whether you choose the chair alone or build the full gang, The Wooligan is a one-of-a-kind statement piece designed to make you slow down, sink in, and stay put.

Sidekick Options

  • Regular Pouffe – approx. 27cm high × 45cm diameter
A lower, relaxed footrest for casual comfort.

  • Large Pouffe – approx. 40cm high × 50cm diameter
Seat-height lounging for maximum stretch-out comfort.

  • The Scallywag Footstool – approx. 55cm wide × 45cm deep × 40cm high
A sturdy footstool with oak legs that complement The Wooligan perfectly.

Rare breed sheepskin is wonderfully expressive – every piece is unique, with its own natural wool length, texture, curl and colour. No two fleeces are ever identical, which is exactly what gives rare breed pieces their character, depth and movement. Colour tones can range from soft creams and warm ivories through rich browns to deep, dark chocolate shades, often with beautiful variation across a single fleece. Some are long and flowing, others more textured and sculptural — all naturally occurring and impossible to replicate.

Choosing Your Wooligan

The numbered visual illustrations in the gallery show different sets of sheepskins laid over a Wooligan chair frame and carefully edited to give you the best possible representation of the finished chair.

Browse through the gallery and find the images with the wording ‘visual illustration‘ and simply choose the sheepskins that speak to you. Add that visual illustration number to the order notes section at checkout and the exact sheepskins shown in your chosen image are the ones we’ll use to upholster your chair.  If you add a sidekick we will use matching sheepskins to create a coherent set.

A Note About the visual illustrations

Our Wooligan chairs are individually handmade, so the numbered visual illustrations are intended to show how each sheepskin will look once made into a chair.

While we carefully edit each image to reflect the finished shape as accurately as possible, they remain visual illustrations rather than photographs of completed chairs.

Because sheepskin is a wonderfully natural material and every chair is upholstered by hand, there will be small variations in the finished appearance. The way the wool settles, the direction of the fleece and the exact positioning of the natural markings may differ slightly from the visual illustration.

What won’t change is the sheepskin itself. The sheepskins shown in your chosen gallery image are the ones that will be used to make your chair, so you can buy with confidence knowing you’ll receive the colour, texture and natural character you’ve selected.

  • Upholstered in British rare breed sheepskin with rich natural texture

  • Six carefully matched sheepskin rugs used for each chair

  • Naturally breathable, insulating and irresistibly tactile

  • Optional matching pouffes or footstool for a complete lounging set

  • Handmade in our North Wales workshop — every piece is unique

  •  The sheepskins shown are the exact ones we’ll use.

  • Small variations are part of the beauty of handmade furniture and make every Wooligan completely unique.

Adopt The Wooligan — and decide whether to let it roam solo or bring along a perfectly matched sidekick for ultimate, unapologetic comfort.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Rare breed sheepskin is wonderfully expressive. Each piece has its own natural character, with variations in wool length, texture, curl and colour that make every creation entirely unique.

Tones range from soft creams and warm ivories through to rich browns and deep chocolate shades, often with subtle variation across a single fleece. Some pieces are long and flowing, others more textured and sculptural — all naturally occurring and impossible to replicate.

This natural diversity is exactly what gives rare breed pieces their depth, movement and individuality.

For made-to-order pieces, you’re invited to select your favourites from the collection. From there, we carefully curate a complementary set, considering tone, texture and flow so everything works beautifully together. We’ll always share the selection with you for approval before any making begins.

As sheepskin is a natural product the wool on each of our sheepskin products is unique and can differ in texture and length.  That’s why we specify that our measurements are approximate.

Please keep the dyed colours out of strong sunlight as it may bleach and dry out the skin.  The natural colours of Ivory, Rare Breed and Chocolate will not be affected by strong sunlight.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
