The story

Meet our sheepskin rowing seat pad, designed for recreational rowers, touring rowers and anyone who knows that four or five hours on a rowing seat can feel a lot longer than it sounds.

Made from soft, short-wool sheepskin with a naturally grippy suede back, this pad adds a layer of cushioning, warmth and breathable comfort between you and the boat seat. It is especially useful for long rowing tours, steady recreational outings, indoor rowing sessions and those days when you are out in all weathers and your seat needs to feel a bit kinder.

This is not flashy racing kit. In fact, we suspect most competitive crews would pretend not to need one. But for rowers who care more about enjoying the journey than looking hard in front of the squad, it is a brilliantly simple comfort upgrade.

Each pad is handmade in our North Wales workshop using sheepskin offcuts, so every one is a little different. Choose from the colours we have available, mark your name on the suede back if you like, pop it on your seat, and row on.

As each pad is handmade from natural sheepskin, small variations are to be expected.

Good to know

These pads have been designed with real rowers in mind. It is a practical comfort pad for long outings, rowing tours, recreational rows and indoor erg sessions.

The suede back helps it stay in place on the seat, but it is still easy to lift out, dry and take home after use. Many rowers mark their name on the back with permanent marker, especially when rowing in groups or on tours.

Care instructions

We have tested these pads and they can be washed gently at low temperature using wool detergent.

Care guidance:

Wash at low temperature on a gentle wool cycle, or hand wash gently
Use wool detergent
Do not use biological detergent
Do not bleach
Do not tumble dry
Dry naturally, away from direct heat
Reshape while damp if needed
Brush the wool gently once dry

If the pad gets wet during rowing, let it dry naturally between uses. As with all natural sheepskin, avoid leaving it sitting damp in a kit bag for long periods.

Styling notes

This is a practical rowing accessory rather than a fashion statement – although, frankly, it does look rather lovely.

It is ideal for recreational rowers who spend longer periods on the water, particularly those who enjoy rowing tours, long river days, canal rows, coastal exploring and sociable club outings. It is also a useful comfort layer for longer indoor rowing sessions at home.
