Hygge October means Flocktober

Hygge October is here, but at the home of Baa Stool, nestled amongst the rolling green hills of North Wales, there’s far more happening.  Hygge October means Flocktober. October is well known in the Northern Hemisphere as the season for Oktoberfest, Halloween, fall, colourful Autumn leaves and pumpkin spice. It’s a colour filled season where rusty palettes are embraced, sheepskin rolls out, spice leads the way… and everyone struggles to hold on to the fading memories of summer. Make way for Flocktober. Flocktober I hear you say. Is that a thing? Really? It is. And let me tell you all about it. Here’s 6 things you need to know about…Flocktober, because Hygge October means Flocktober.

1. Getting cosy

Flocktober is when the world around us gets cosy. When fireside evenings, with a hot chocolate or a glass of red warms the soul. Our favourite blankets become our best friends. Sheepskin footstools feel like the best thing on the planet. Ugg boots, fluffy slippers and woolly socks become part of our being and we have an open invitation to put our pj’s on the moment we finish work. Everyone does that right?

2. Light all the candles

2. Flocktober is when we fill our homes with beautiful scented candles, we turn to comforting one pot dinners and we find moments we didn’t realise we had available, where we can cosy up with our favourite reads. Sitting on my sheepskin footstool here is my current read. It’s a book of micro reads, 2 pages max per chapter and topic – perfect reading before the lights go out.

3. Slow down

Flocktober is where the board games are once again unboxed, the knitting projects recommence, journaling seems apt and long candlelit baths fall onto the daily agenda. The word hygge demands attention and further investigation. Is there another slower, more enriching way of living?

4. Rest and recharge

Flocktober is about looking within, finding stillness and learning once again to winter. It’s the beginning of the healing season, where nature and humans are invited to rest and recharge before blooming again next Spring.

5. A seat for your bestie.

It’s also the season to welcome the PumPouffe. And what a magnificent beast he is. A massive sheepskin pumpkin.  If you know of any pumpkin growing competitions we can enter him into, do let us know! We couldn’t resist joining the pumpkin craze and so added our very own giant sheepskin pouffe. Shall we add a bat next or maybe a black cat for Halloween?

6. Expand your flock

Flocktober is also the month of our annual Baa Stool Barn Show, where our flock gets exhibited, and judged by our shepherds. I think this year, we’ll even hand out the rosettes. On parade through the month, you’ll see our flock of footstools, benches and stunning bear chairs.
