Out of stock

A one-off Brown Swiss-inspired cow wall hanging made from vanilla and caramel-toned rare breed sheepskin with caramel leather horns, a soft nose and wonderfully generous ears.

The story

Meet the Chilly Cow.

Created to celebrate the opening of Chilly Cow’s new Tŷ’r Felin café at Loggerheads Country Park, this one-off wall hanging was inspired by the Brown Swiss cows living on Michelle’s Pal Anna’s family farm in the foothills of the Clwydian Range.

Brown Swiss cows are a less common sight in Wales, but they are easily recognised by their beautiful brown coats and charming fluffy ears. Their milk is naturally rich in butterfat, making it perfect for Chilly Cow’s award-winning ice cream.

Back in our workshop, we began with a good rummage through our rare breed sheepskin and leather trimmings. We selected a delicious mixture of vanilla and caramel-brown sheepskin for her face and fringe, before adding caramel leather horns, a soft nose and a wonderfully expressive pair of ears.

The result is warm, playful and completely individual — rather like a favourite scoop of salted caramel in cow form.

There is only one Chilly Cow Wall Hanging. Once she leaves the workshop, we cannot make another exactly the same.

Good to know

This is a handmade, one-off piece made from natural rare breed sheepskin. The markings, wool texture, colour placement and overall character are completely individual.

The sawtooth hook on the reverse makes her easy to hang from a suitable wall fixing.

Styling notes

The Chilly Cow is made for walls that need a little personality.

She would look wonderfully at home in a kitchen, boot room, hallway or relaxed country interior. Her warm neutral colouring also allows her to sit beautifully within a cleaner, more contemporary scheme, where the natural texture and playful shape can become a real focal point.

She would, of course, be particularly perfect near the ice cream.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Some of our stools require very basic assembly. We have a fully dedicated page to guide you on how to assemble your Baa Stool.  Click on the link below to view our full guide.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
