A wonderfully characterful curled-up sheepskin hedgehog door stop with an eggshell Yeti sheepskin back and an eggshell shearling tummy. Spike is finished with brown leather eye patches, black glass eyes and black wool felted nose and paws.

Handmade in our North Wales workshop and filled with pebbles for weight.

A small curled-up sheepskin hedgehog door stop with a wonderfully wild coat and plenty of woodland character.

The story

Meet Spike.

Spike is another member of our Woodland Animals range, made in the same curled-up hedgehog style as Hattie and Marilyn, but with a look entirely his own.

His long shaggy “spines” are made from eggshell-coloured Yeti sheepskin, giving him a softer, wilder, slightly spikier appearance, while his tummy is finished in matching eggshell shearling. Brown leather eye patches frame his black glass eyes, and a black wool felt nose and matching black wool felt paws complete his characterful little face.

Like the others, Spike lies gently curled on his back and has enough weight to hold a door beautifully. He is practical, yes, but he is also a decorative little character in his own right — a hedgehog for the floor, the hearth, the shelf or wherever he can quietly make himself at home.

Good to know

Spike is filled with pebbles, giving him enough weight to work as a practical door stop.

As with all sheepskin products, natural variation in texture, curl and wool direction is part of his charm.

He is easy to care for. Please refer to our sheepskin care guide for looking after the wool.

Styling notes

Spike is designed as a door stop, but he is characterful enough to be decorative too.

Use him by a door, on a hearth, tucked under a bench, placed on a shelf or styled on the floor in a boot room, hallway, snug or cottage corner. His soft eggshell tones work beautifully with pale woods, natural stone, linen and relaxed neutral interiors.

As sheepskin is a natural product the wool on each of our sheepskin products is unique and can differ in texture and length.  That's why we specify that our measurements are approximate.

Please keep the dyed colours out of strong sunlight as it may bleach and dry out the skin.

How to Care for Sheepskin

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not bred for their skins and sheepskin is a by product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
