A rich plum coloured sheepskin rug inspired by the local Denbigh Plum. Soft, tactile and perfect for bringing a deep autumn tone into your home.

The story

It’s September.

The evenings are drawing in.

And the plums are ripening.

So when these beautiful sheepskin rugs arrived in this rich plum colour, there was an obvious local connection.

The Denbigh Plum.

The Denbigh Plum is the pride of Denbigh town and something we are very fond of here in North Wales.

It is believed to be more than 300 years old and is the oldest plum variety in Wales. It is juicy, deeply coloured and traditionally identified by the little golden spots on its skin.

Can you believe a plum has that much history?

Every autumn Denbigh celebrates it properly too, with the Denbigh Plum Feast bringing together local food, drink, crafts and produce in the town.

This year the feast takes place on Saturday 3 October at Denbigh Town Hall, which makes these rugs feel particularly well timed for Drop 17.

Here’s a link to the event details; Plum Feast

They have exactly that sort of deep, juicy plum colour.

Each rug measures approximately 90cm x 60cm and works beautifully beside a bed, draped over a chair, layered over a sofa or simply wherever you want to introduce a sweep of soft sheepskin texture and rich seasonal colour.

Sometimes a Drop piece doesn’t need much intervention from us.

Sometimes the colour and the story do all the work.

Styling notes

The plum colour is rich enough to make a statement but surprisingly easy to use.

It works beautifully with warm woods, ochre, rust, natural linen, deep greens and soft neutrals.

Lovely beside a bed, over an armchair or layered into a room that needs a little more warmth and texture.

Drop note

These plum sheepskin rugs were selected for autumn Drop 17 to promote the Plum Feast!

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
