Four wonderfully dramatic black Icelandic sheepskin rugs with naturally long, wild and beautifully tactile wool. Each skin is completely individual and perfect for adding rich natural texture to a chair, bench, bed or floor.

The story

The arrival of our new Icelandic sheepskins couldn’t have been better timed.

We chose some of the most dramatic black skins for Drop 18 and, although one was sacrificed in the making of our angel wings, these four were simply too beautiful to do anything other than leave exactly as nature intended.

Icelandic sheepskins are particularly striking because of their long wool and wonderfully untamed appearance. Rather than looking perfectly uniform, the wool has movement, texture and character, giving each skin its own silhouette and personality.

In black, that texture becomes even more dramatic.

Thrown over a chair or bench, draped across the end of a bed or simply laid on the floor, these are an easy way to add natural texture to a room – with a suitably gothic edge for Drop 18.

The details

Genuine Icelandic sheepskin rug

Naturally long black wool

Four individual rugs available

Each rug has its own shape, texture and character

Soft, tactile natural sheepskin

Suitable as a rug, throw or decorative layer

Dimensions

Each rug varies naturally in size.

Please refer to the individual rug images and measurements when choosing yours.

Condition

Brand new natural sheepskins.

Variations in shape, wool length, texture and markings are part of the character of genuine sheepskin and not considered faults.

Good to know

No two Icelandic sheepskins are identical.

The longer wool gives these rugs a particularly dramatic appearance and makes them brilliant for introducing texture without needing pattern.

Styling notes

Black sheepskin is surprisingly versatile.

Use it over an old leather chair, against pale linen, on dark oak, over a bench or at the side of the bed.

For Halloween, we’d obviously vote for candlelight, dark wood and a suitably gothic chair – but these rugs will look wonderful long after the pumpkins have disappeared.

Drop note

Four individual black Icelandic sheepskin rugs are available in Workshop Drop No. 18.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Some of our stools require very basic assembly. We have a fully dedicated page to guide you on how to assemble your Baa Stool.  Click on the link below to view our full guide.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
