The first Hector has sold – but the hedgehogs are officially coming back.

After such a lovely response to our first hedgehog pouffe, we are bringing the Woodland Animals range forward and making more.  Each hedgehog will be handmade by Sanna using natural rare breed sheepskin, so every one will be completely individual. Colours, markings and little faces will vary slightly.

Handmade to order and ready to dispatch within 14 days.

Hector the Hedgehog Pouffe is a one-off handmade footstool and the first piece in our new Woodland Animals range. Made by Sanna from woodland brown rare breed sheepskin with a short curly cocoa sheepskin belly, black felted wool paws and glass eyes, Hector is a practical footstool with a little face that will make you smile every day.

A curled-up rare breed sheepskin hedgehog footstool, made for feet, smiles and woodland daydreaming.

The story

Meet Hector.

Hector is the first piece in our new Woodland Animals range, and Sanna has been quietly mulling him over for a very long time.

Sanna loves spending time in nature, and the idea of making a hedgehog has been tucked away in her head for ages. She is not one to rush these things. She lets a pattern develop slowly, turning it over in her mind until, one day, she arrives in the workshop and announces:

“Today is the day. Hedgehog.”

And here he is.

Hector is lying on his back, gently curled up, with woodland brown rare breed sheepskin forming his long, shaggy body “spines” and short curly cocoa sheepskin wool on his soft underbelly. He has black wool felted paws and nose, black glass eyes and a little face designed to make you smile every day.

He is a practical footstool, but he is also far more than that. Hector is the sort of piece that becomes part of the family.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

I just wanted to say thank you for getting Hector to me so quickly. He arrived 24 hours after my order. He was beautifully wrapped, thank you Vicky, and with his own little brush. Your customer service is wonderful.

I could not be more delighted. He is exquisite and beautifully crafted by Sanna and his face and cuddly tummy are so cute. I can’t stop talking to him. My cat 🐈‍⬛ will be so jealous. 😄

He is very comfy. Just the right combination of support and softness. Wonderful to snuggle my feet into in front of the fire and read my book.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
