A beautifully detailed field mushroom doorstop, handmade in our North Wales workshop using soft mushroom coloured sheepskin and clever layered detailing.
A little woodland charm has appeared in the workshop.
Inspired by the humble field mushroom and our love of woodland walks and foraging, this characterful mushroom doorstop has been carefully designed and handmade using beautifully contrasting sheepskin textures.
The sturdy stalk is made from velvety sheepskin and forms the weighted base of the piece. It is filled with approximately 1.5kg of bagged pea gravel, giving the mushroom the stability and strength needed to work as a practical doorstop. A concealed zip allows access to the weighted section, so the pea gravel can be replaced with something heavier if required – or even something secret if you wish.
Above, the cap is made from lovely fluffy mushroom coloured sheepskin, giving the piece a soft and natural look. Beneath the cap, the gills have been cleverly formed from shorn sheepskin, adding beautiful texture and a convincing sculptural finish.
Creating all of this detail in sheepskin is no mean feat. Each section has to be cut, shaped and assembled with care and precision, turning a practical household item into a wonderfully unusual decorative piece.
Part woodland treasure, part textile sculpture, this one-off mushroom is both useful and full of personality. Whether styled in a hallway, bedroom or cosy reading corner, it brings a gentle nod to the natural world indoors.

This is a highly detailed handmade piece created from natural sheepskin. Variations in wool texture, tone and shape are part of its unique character.
The concealed zip allows access to the weighted compartment. Any replacement filling should be clean, completely dry and securely contained.
Styling notes
Place this charming mushroom beneath a door in a hallway, bedroom, reading nook or relaxed living room.
It looks especially at home in a nature inspired interior, but its sculptural shape and soft neutral tones also make it a lovely addition to a more understated scheme.
When it is not busy holding a door open, it deserves to be displayed somewhere it can still be admired.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK. Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand. Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?
In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer. Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’
I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality. The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen. The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks. I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods. This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.
Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.
I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
