8 Ways to keep warm this Winter
We’re all worried about our energy bills this winter, and I’m sure most of us will only be switching on the heating when we really need to. With this in mind, I’ve devised a few useful and FUN ideas to keep you warm and cheerful during the winter months. Ready for the Baa Stool guide to keeping warm?
:
1: Only heat the rooms you’re going to use
1. Only heat the rooms you actually use. If no one’s in the spare bedroom or office, these rooms can remain cold. Concentrate on heating the rooms you want to be comfortable in.
2. Get rid of the salads and eat hot meals!
There’s nothing more warming than a meat or bean casserole, a curry or chilli. Why not prepare a homemade vegetable or tomato soup for lunch and feel the heat warming you up?
3. Layers are the answer!Â
Wearing several thin layers will keep you warmer than wearing just a couple of thicker layers. Why not have a layers competition with your family? How many layers of clothes can you fit on in five minutes and still be able to move? You’ll soon realise how hot you feel! #HowManyHoodies
4. Woollen blankets or throws
are the best thing for snuggling under. When you’re watching a film or reading a book, and you’re feeling a tad chilly, wrap yourself up in a blanket or two. It makes a huge difference to your body temperature and it’s soothing too. And of course you’ll be needing a sheepskin footstool to put your feet up on.
5. Block out those pesky draughts!
An attractive draught excluder (we call them draught excl-ewe-ders) placed at the bottom of the sitting-room door will keep those icy draughts outside and the warmth inside.
6. Get moving.Â
When we keep still for too long, no matter how many clothes we’ve got on, we tend to feel chilly. So put on some music and dance! Get the toes tapping and the blood flowing. Even if you’re not able to do much exercise, you can enjoy music from your chair, preferably a Sheepskin armchair. Some of your favourite songs can be great for lifting the spirits.
7. Schedule movement breaks
Pomodoro may or maynot be a new word. It means ‘tomato’ in Italian. The Pomodoro Technique is actually a time-management technique that helps you to concentrate on your work. It’s about setting the clock so you work for 25 minutes, with complete focus, then you have 5 minutes off to move around and relax.
Frequent short breaks stave off mental fatigue, but if you’re working at home this winter, these short breaks can also give you a chance to move around, stretch, run up and down the stairs and make a hot drink. They keep you warm and productive. Why not give it a try? Our sheepskin footrest is very useful for keeping your toes cosy while you work.
8. Hug more!
Let’s face it, cuddles with those we love warm the body and the soul. Whether you like to snuggle up with your partner, kids, dog or cat, get closer and feel that body heat!
