I want you to come for a weekend in North Wales!
Firstly because it’s beautiful and there’s lots to do and see.
Secondly because I want to welcome you to our build your own Baa Stool class!
So, from every fortnight I’m going to include a complete weekend itinerary that starts with the class on Friday pm and will cover a different vibe every week.
If there’s a particular area, activity or niche you’d like me to cover please just ask – I love planning trips to this wonderful part of the world!
Friday
Take Friday off work and travel towards North Wales. Arrive at Baa Stool HQ at 12.45 in time for a paned (cuppa) with Michelle and Sanna before you enter Baa Skool to make your own sheepskin stool.
4pm: Skool’s out! Pick up your stool proudly and head to your castle to check in.
5pm: Stroll around the grounds, meet the peacocks and play at being a Tudor.
6pm: Stroll into Ruthin, The Sunday Times ‘Best Place to Live in Wales’ and enjoy a pre-dinner drink in Jacques Wine Bar.
7pm: Dine at Small Plates for foods of the world tapas! Nibbles, small plates, sharing platters and yummy cocktails!
After dinner head back to the castle for a nightcap in the historic bar – sleep tight!
Saturday
After a full Welsh breakfast housed in the historic banqueting hall of the Castle today is a day to explore!
Drive through Clocaenog Forest, into Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) and head for the car park next to the old slate museum in Llanberis. Stroll this route out of the car park and you’ll find the famous picturesque row of old miners cottages – it’s a steep stroll but worth it! On the side of Llyn Padarn you’ll find Sawna Bach, a beautiful wood built sauna overlooking the lake. Reward the strenuous walk in the sauna then throw yourself into the lovely cold lake – very bracing – feel those endorphins for the rest of the day!
Drive back towards Betws Y Coed and stop for a late lunch at The Ugly House – delicious! Have a mooch around the shops in Betws Y Coed or head off for a stroll along the river, there’s lots of routes available.
Head back towards Ruthin for dinner at No11 where Brazillian chef Marco uses local produce to create dishes with flair and the cocktails are delicious!
Sunday
After checking out have a stroll down to Ruthin Craft Centre to wander the galleries, follow the art trail from there back into town, it’s a great way to learn about the history of this ancient settling.
Time for Sunday lunch and we’re going to urge you to visit our favourite spot – The White Horse in Hendrerewydd, just a short drive into the surrounding farmland of the Vale of Clwyd. Enjoy our sheepskin furniture there!
If you’re feeling energetic after lunch then drive up to the car park at Moel Famau and take a walk up this famous hill. The views of the town and vale where you’ve spent your weekend are a spectacular way to finish off your trip!
I’ll be adding a new itinerary to the collection of weekends in North Wales every fortnight and you’ll find the latest below…
