Upholstered in short, curly bouclé-style sheepskin, Fossil is a beautifully balanced blend of grey and dark beige, offering effortless warmth and natural elegance. Soft, structured and wonderfully versatile, this ready-made stool works beautifully as a footstool, occasional seat or elegant side table.

The story

This Medium Fossil Shearling Sheepskin Stool is the very first one we’ve made, and we love it so much.

We’ve been working on a new shearling stool design with a flatter, more structured top and handcrafted hardwood barrel feet, giving it a lighter, more furniture-inspired feel than a traditional pouffe. For this first Drop piece, we chose Fossil shearling and paired it with walnut legs — a combination that feels warm, natural and quietly elegant.

Fossil is a beautifully balanced blend of grey and dark beige, offering effortless warmth and natural elegance. Upholstered in premium short, curly bouclé-style sheepskin, this stool has a soft, tactile finish while still feeling neat, practical and beautifully considered.

The firm foam interior gives excellent support, making it equally useful as a footstool, an occasional seat or a practical side table. The flat, structured top is ideal for styling with a tray or coaster, creating an informal surface for drinks, books or everyday essentials.

Finished with a wool mix zipped fabric base and handmade in our North Wales workshop, this one-off Drop piece is ready to ship.

Styling notes

The visible walnut barrel feet give this stool a lighter, more refined look than a traditional pouffe, making it feel equally at home in contemporary, Scandinavian and classic interiors.

Use it as a generous footstool beside an armchair, an occasional perch when friends call, or a side table styled with a tray. The Fossil sheepskin brings warmth, softness and understated texture without overpowering the room.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
