A one-off Nancy Armchair upholstered in deep cream rare breed sheepskin with soft ginger freckles. Handmade in North Wales with a sprung seat, cushioned frame and beautiful natural character.

The story

When the latest delivery of rare breed sheepskins arrived, Michelle and Vicky did what they always do first – spread them out, study them properly, and start imagining what they might become.

With rare breed sheepskin, that part really matters. No two are ever quite the same, and finding fleeces that sit happily together is part instinct, part experience, and part falling a little bit in love with the right combination.

For this chair, we pulled together a wonderfully pretty group of skins in a deep cream tone, scattered with soft ginger freckles. They had a gentleness to them, but also enough pattern and interest to bring real character. Those colours felt perfectly suited to the more traditional lines of the Nancy chair.

Nancy has always been one of our most comfortable armchairs, with a generous shape, supportive arms and a sprung seat that makes her a lovely place to properly settle into. Covered in this rare breed sheepskin, she feels especially inviting – classic in shape, but fresher, softer and more individual.

It is exactly the kind of piece we love making at Baa Stool – taking a raw frame and bringing it to life through beautiful natural materials. The result is a chair that feels timeless, distinctive and full of quiet charm.

And because these sheepskins are naturally unique, this Nancy is a one-off.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
