A wonderfully detailed, mushroom doorstop inspired by the enchanting Amanita muscaria, handcrafted from velvety, long wool and Yeti sheepskin.

The story

A little woodland magic has appeared in the workshop.

Inspired by the wonderfully whimsical Amanita muscaria, this extraordinary mushroom doorstop was designed and is handmade by Sanna using three very different sheepskin textures.

Velvety sheepskin creates the smooth sculptural areas, while long wool and wonderfully curly Yeti sheepskin have been carefully shaped and layered to form the intricate spots, gills and skirt.

Creating all of that detail in sheepskin is no mean feat. Each component has to be cut, formed and assembled with great precision, turning a practical doorstop into a true piece of textile sculpture.

The cap is softly filled with clean sheepskin trimmings from our workshop, while the base contains approximately 1.5kg of pea gravel to keep it firmly grounded. A concealed zip gives access to the weighted compartment, allowing you to replace the gravel with something heavier when required — or perhaps use the hidden space to store a few tiny treasures.

Each Magical Mushroom will differ slightly. They are genuine workshop treasure and, once one has disappeared into its new home, we will not be able to make another exactly the same.

Good to know

This is a highly detailed, handmade piece created from natural sheepskin. Variations in the wool texture, curls and shape are part of its unique character.

The concealed zip allows access to the pea-gravel compartment. Any replacement filling should be clean, completely dry and securely contained.

Styling notes

Place this magical mushroom beneath a door in a bedroom, hallway, reading corner or relaxed living room.

It would be particularly wonderful in a woodland-inspired interior, but its sculptural shape and carefully layered textures also make it a delightful statement piece in a more grown-up neutral scheme.

When it is not holding a door open, it deserves to be displayed somewhere it can be admired.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form 'Team Baa' and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
