We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK. Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand. Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.
Do contact us for a current lead time on our chairs…it can be up to 8 weeks but is usually much faster if you chair is already made!
The story
Michelle fell in love with this wonderful old French sofa at our local antiques emporium and immediately knew it needed sheepskin.
The challenge was choosing a sheepskin that wouldn’t compete with all that lovely original detail. The carved wooden frame, elegant high back and painted gold pinstriping deserved to remain very much part of the story.
So we chose Oatmeal – a beautifully neutral, short boucle sheepskin with a soft, tactile finish and enough restraint to let the frame shine. It’s also hard wearing and wonderfully versatile, making this rather grand old sofa surprisingly easy to introduce into a modern home.
Before any sheepskin went near it, Jane completely stripped the upholstery back and Philip rebuilt the seat. It has been re-seated with hand-tied traditional coil springs and upholstered using natural materials to create a deep, generous and extremely comfortable place to sit.
And yes, it did make us think of Dangerous Liaisons. If you’ve seen the film, you’ll understand exactly why a French sofa should be both beautiful and extremely sturdy.
This one most definitely is.
Elegant without being precious, luxurious without being shouty and completely unique – The French Affair is one of those pieces around which an entire room could be built.

Good to know
This is an antique piece and its age is part of its charm. Small marks and variations in the original frame and finish should be expected.
Natural sheepskin varies slightly in colour and texture throughout.

Styling notes
This sofa would be fabulous against rich wall colours, but Oatmeal also makes it beautifully suited to quiet, neutral interiors. Try it in a bedroom, drawing room, generous hallway or as a statement sofa in a smaller sitting room.

Part of Drop 15 and completely one of a kind. Once this sofa has gone, there won’t be another quite like it.
As sheepskin is a natural product the wool on each of our sheepskin products is unique and can differ in texture and length. That’s why we specify that our measurements are approximate.
Please keep the dyed colours out of strong sunlight as it may bleach and dry out the skin. The natural colours of Ivory, Rare Breed and Chocolate will not be affected by strong sunlight.
Why Baa Stool?
In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer. Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’
I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality. The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen. The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks. I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods. This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.
Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.
I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
