The story
Meet Comet. She’s got a very important job to do.
Comet is one of Santa’s original eight reindeer, first introduced in the famous 1823 poem A Visit from St. Nicholas, better known as ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.
And here’s something rather wonderful about reindeer. Male reindeer generally shed their antlers in late autumn or early winter, while females keep theirs through the colder months. Which means there’s a very good chance that the reindeer pulling Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve are actually girls.
Sanna rather likes that idea. So meet Comet – strong, dependable and the sort of reindeer you’d want at the front of the team when the weather turns nasty.
In our version of the story, she’s the steady one. The coach who keeps everyone in formation, the sweetheart who always has time for a cuddle, and a bit of a stargazer who likes to keep one eye on the night sky.
She also has a particular fondness for carrots and apples, although we suspect she’d abandon sleigh duties altogether for a really good Christmas pudding.
Our Comet has been handmade in the Baa Stool workshop using beautifully soft Oatmeal shearling sheepskin. Her generously rounded body is topped with cream leather antlers and a matching nose, while deep jet black glass eyes give her that wonderfully endearing expression.
She’s based on our large Highland cow pouffe, so beneath all that festive character is a proper, practical piece of furniture.
A footstool for most of the year. A rather splendid reindeer for Christmas.
And definitely not just for the children.

Good to know
Comet is made using real sheepskin, so her fleece has all the beautiful natural character and variation you’d expect from this wonderful material.
Her filling combines lightweight beanbag beads with sheepskin trimmings, making good use of the offcuts from our workshop.
Although she’s a very friendly-looking reindeer, Comet is a piece of furniture rather than a children’s toy. Her decorative antlers and glass eyes should be treated with care.
And while she has been created with Christmas in mind, there’s absolutely no reason she can’t stay out all year.
Styling notes
Comet would look wonderful beside a fireplace, in front of a cosy armchair or keeping watch beneath the Christmas tree.
Her neutral Oatmeal fleece and soft cream leather details mean she’ll fit beautifully into natural, contemporary and traditional interiors.
We particularly love the thought of her making an annual appearance every December, becoming one of those much-loved family Christmas traditions.
Although we suspect she might prove rather difficult to put away in January.
Drop note
Comet new creation for Workshop Drop No. 20, handmade with love, a little imagination and quite a lot of sheepskin in our North Wales workshop.
She will be added to our Christmas range and is available until the end of January.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK. Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand. Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?
In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer. Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’
I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality. The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen. The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks. I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods. This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.
Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.
I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
