Meet Patch – a wonderfully beefy Large Bull Pouffe handmade from naturally patterned Jacob sheepskin, complete with a soft velvety face and contrasting cream leather horns and nose. Completely one of a kind and absolutely full of character.

The story

Apparently one enormous rare breed bull pouffe wasn’t enough.

After Alan from Arran arrived in the workshop, we knew there were more members of the herd waiting to happen.

Meet Patch.

Patch is made from wonderful naturally patterned Jacob sheepskin, and it was the markings that gave him his name. Cream, brown and dark patches run through the wool in a pattern that no fabric designer could ever reproduce – because nature has already done a rather better job.

We’ve paired that characterful fleece with a soft velvety sheepskin face and contrasting cream leather horns and nose.

The result is a bull with a distinctly gentler expression than his considerable proportions might suggest.

He’s beefy. He’s tactile. He’s very comfortable.

And he has the sort of face that makes it quite difficult to walk past him without giving him a pat.

At approximately 75cm long, Patch is substantial enough to work as a proper footstool, occasional perch or gloriously unnecessary statement piece.

As with all of our rare breed creations, his natural markings make him completely unique.

There will only ever be one Patch.

Styling notes

Patch is crying out for a relaxed sitting room, family room or fireside spot.

He works brilliantly as a statement footstool, can take the occasional perch and introduces natural pattern, texture and quite a lot of personality into an otherwise simple interior.

He’s furniture with a sense of humour – but he’s beautifully made furniture first.

Drop note

Patch is part of our limited Drop 15 collection. His markings are entirely natural and cannot be reproduced, so once he’s gone, he’s gone.

We source the highest quality grade sheepskin predominantly from flocks across the UK.  Where we are unable to source a specific colour within the UK we import sheepskin from New Zealand.  Sheep are not farmed for their skins and sheepskin is a by-product of the food industry.

Why Baa Stool?

Baa Stool Meet The Team

In 2011 I left the corporate world, moved home to rural North Wales and retrained to be an upholsterer.  Two years in, during a tea break from a particularly challenging chair, I was looking at the sheep in the fields surrounding my workshop and mused ‘they look like little footstools. Hmmmmmm…sheepskin covered footstools. Oh yes!’

I spent several months developing the idea and ensuring that every detail of the product is high quality.  The frames and legs are made by skilled craftsmen.  The sheepskin is always premium grade and predominantly from UK flocks.  I source the best upholstery materials and we upholster each Baa Stool using a mix of modern and traditional methods.  This is important because I want my customers to enjoy a product that is the very best it can possibly be.

Around this exciting product a group of talented, enthusiastic and dedicated individuals gathered to form ‘Team Baa’ and a Great Little British Business was born.

I started selling Baa Stools at local artisan markets and county shows and they quickly developed a following. I noticed that the sheepskin cover upholstered on the footstools made people stop in their tracks, look closer…then, inevitably, smile. This quickly became the overall aim of every new design… to make people smile when they walk into a room.
